A Peruvian painting of the Madonna and Child from ‘the School of Cuzco’. This style developed out of the attempts of Jesuit missionaries to adapt their message to the culture of their potential converts. This method of 'accommodation' had been practised since the sixteenth century. However, this painting, a hybrid between a traditional Christian subject and its Peruvian design, dates from the 20th Century.
