Introduction
This photographic exhibition celebrates the parks and community centres of Florence Park and Cutteslowe. The year 2024 marked the 90th anniversary of the Florence Park estate, 90 years since the Cutteslowe Walls were built and 65 years since they were taken down.
‘Park Life’ puts the spotlight on the past and present of these two vibrant neighbourhoods, both of which are home to thriving communities.
These photographs provide a small snapshot of the histories of these communities, and their experiences of Oxford’s changing urban environment. The exhibition shows how human and natural communities are closely intertwined within the memories of Oxford’s parks, allotments, and community centres.
Within the exhibition, through an interactive map, we also asked visitors "What are your favourite memories of Oxford's outdoor spaces?". Many visitors kindly shared their memories of Oxford's outdoor spaces, with many responses focusing on time spent with loved ones, sport and play, calm moments by the river, and experiencing vibrant community-run events. Do you have a favourite outdoor space in Oxford?
