Voices of Windrush Generations in Oxford

During the spring and summer of 2018 members of the local West Indian/Caribbean community worked with the Museum of Oxford's Reminiscence Officer to create recordings telling the story of their personal journeys to Britain from the West Indies/Caribbean.

The stories are moving and inspiring. The Museum is very grateful to the participants for sharing their personal accounts of settling in Britain.

Participants faced prejudice and have had to overcome barriers but went on to have successful careers in nursing, teaching and raising families. These are stories of courage, dignity, determination and kindness.

We would like to thank the Oxfordshire Local History Association who have generously supported the project and made it possible for a CD of the recordings to be created.
