The Brewery Gate

Description

The Brewery Gate on St Thomas Street operated as a lesbian pub from 2003 to 2010. Prior to that it was known as the Marlborough Arms.

Witney-born Lulu Hudson ran it and shared her memories with the Pink Times (revival issue 5, 2019):

"It was open 6 days a week, 12-11pm. I used to do fancy drag nights, I also held open mic nights. It was involved in Pride every year with a number of fundraisers and events held there. As far as I'm aware, it was the first Lesbian pub in Oxford that was open all day every day.

The advantage it had over the other pubs was the games room with a pool table looking out over the canal, oh, and the fact that it was £1.50 a pint for years!"

The Brewery Gayte closed in September 2010 when the brewery owners sold the site, today re-developed as a residential building.
